
What is the Mac 4x4
The Macmillan 4x4 UK Challenge (Mac 4x4 or The Mac as it known)is a
long distance navigational challenge event raising funds for Macmillan
Cancer Support. The challenge aims to test navigational and observation
Skills along with endurance and driving ability both on and off road by
day and by night. Each team consists of two members, a driver and a navigator
Although is strongly recommended that both are licensed and insured for
The vehicle for the event. The event can cover from 400 to 1000 road miles
with various off road sections in a weekend.
To enter the Mac you do not need a tricked out truck. Any sensibly equipped
4x4 should be able to complete the event in fact there are some (off the
Forecourt) standard vehicles which compete. The teams are given the start details
about a week before the start but the route is kept top secret until the
Road books are issued along the way.
The teams are required to raise a minimum sponsorship of £600. ALL the
sponsor money raised goes to Macmillan Cancer Support as the team cover
The cost of fuel and any other cost along the way also they pay the entry fee
which covers the event admin costs and the award dinner at the end.
The award dinner and teams are accommodated at the De Vere hotel Daresbury park
The award dinner requires the competitors to be suited and booted.
The event has a contagious spirit of camaraderie although it is a seriously
